After 150 years…a bright, new future
One of Victoria’s oldest family owned businesses has been sold to one of the country’s largest building materials companies.
CSR Building Materials, the parent of the plasterboard market leader, Gyprock, has acquired Picton Hopkins & Sons, a specialist retail outlet that has operated in Preston since 1974.

The fully renovated Preston store has been designed by retail architects to ensure the best possible customer experience. The new and improved shop and warehouse spaces also house a product range which has been significantly increased, with heaps more Gyprock products, tools and accessories now available. New services such as Online shopping, a new Grab n Go option plus a range of order pick up and delivery options are going to help busy tradies get their materials quicker and in a way that best suits their needs.
The decision to move away from the family business after 5 generations was a difficult one for John and Andrew (Picton) Hopkins but knowing who to entrust the future of the business to was easy. Having enjoyed a longstanding business relationship with CSR Gyprock for many years, this was the clear option for the future of the Picton Hopkins brand and customers
