Renewed support for Fibrous Plaster skills
Ornamental and cast plaster products were an essential element in the architectural style of buildings from a bygone era and fibrous plasterers were in great demand.
Today, this specialist trade is alive and well, with restoration work of heritage buildings and higher quality, traditional style construction projects calling for decorative plaster mouldings.
In recognition of the need for this skill, Victoria’s Holmesglen Vocational College, the state’s most comprehensive provider of building courses has announced the continuation of 22309VIV Course in Fibrous Plastering (Shopwork).
The manager of Gyprock Solutions at Preston, Shane Bruce was instrumental in the development of the revised curriculum for this course, heading up the project’s steering committee.
Gyprock Solutions operates an architectural moulding operation and offers one of the country’s widest range of cornices, roses, caps, corbels, sconces, straps, vents, panels and columns.
Shane’s industry insight was invaluable in ensuring that the new curriculum aligns with contemporary workplace practices.
The Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority (VRQA) has accredited the course for a period of 5 years and it will be available for training from January, 2016.
